First of all, I have absolutely no doubt that, had steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs existed during Babe Ruth's career, Babe Ruth would not only have used them, he would have used more of them than Barry Bonds. I don't understand how anyone can be confused about this. The central theme of Babe Ruth's life, which is the fulcrum of virtually every anecdote and every event of his career, is that Babe Ruth firmly believed that the rules did not apply to Babe Ruth.

The timing of your post is rather bizarre, as I found myself mesmerized by the film "Bigger Stronger Faster" the other evening and the film was so effective in its dissertation of how 'we' don't have the facts that we think we've got and in how 'we' are being mesmerized into thinking PEDs are just plain wrong, I felt a little different about the whole issue after the film was over.
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying I've drank the kool-aid, or that the movie changed my own feelings, but that my personal point of view was entirely alien to the 'perception' of PED use and I think that at a minimum one should check this movie out for themselves as part of their PEDucation...
I can't remember hearing about that film, I'll have to check it out. I will say that I've always thought the people who know most about the effects of PEDs are the people designing, creating, and administering them. But most of those people have a significant interest in not making their knowledge public. I'm interested to see what the movie portrays. Thanks for the tip!
